Southwest 1401

Brilliant skies over the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas Nevada, Yosemite (check out the Falls!), looking back on Mono Lake, flying over the East Bay, and on the ground in Oakland. Normally, I prefer an aisle seat, feel all cramped and claustrophobic trapped in the window seat. But the flight was full, and I much preferred the window to a middle seat. As a result, I got to see the view that I normally miss out on, and the grand beauty outside my window. Take a look yourself.

Skyline Photos

[nivoslider id="164"]

Please enjoy this animated gallery of photos I took, mostly of clouds and sky. Most of these photos are sunrise or early afternoon from my deck overlooking Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland, CA. A few are sunsets taken on Nevis Island in the Caribbean, and one was taken mid-day in Yosemite National Park, in California.

How to build a really great (free) interactive workspace for national non-profit partnership

It’s taken us a long time to get to this point, what with a whole lot of busy folks participating.

FAPP, or the Federal Aids Policy Partnership, is a national coalition of local, regional, and national organizations advocating for progressive federal HIV/AIDS legislation and policy consisting of 126 partnership organizations. They wanted a “file box in the sky” — a place where they could publish documents and have them available by the members at any time, wherever they were, whether they were having a local meeting with advocates or a meeting with Congress up on the hill. Landing page test generates great results

Everybody says they should do it, but they rarely do. I mean test, 0f course. You go to the trouble of building a website, and then you want to start driving traffic to it right away. But if you want to measure reslts and make sure you are converting site visits into revenues, it’s best to test. I’ve joked for years that I’ve never had an unsuccessful test. And that’s not a joke, really, it’s true. But that doesn’t mean every test I’ve ever done made money. Some wildly successful tests taught me exactly what NOT to do.  “Well, that didn’t work.”

But better to find that out with a limited test before you spend your entire marketing budget going forward. There are some great services out there where you can build landing pages and set up split tests to determine what messages work best to drive traffic to the page; and what messages and elements work best to convert that traffic into action — like registrations, donations, downloads, purchases and revenues.

I’ve tested videos against no videos, no testimonial quotes against 2 to 5 testimonial quotes. “Buy now” vs “Add to cart.” Green vs Blue.  All of these things make a difference, but it’s important to only change one element at a time.

Executive Summaries

My free guide — 11 Slides to a Winning Business Plan Outline and Investor Presentation — has been downloaded several hundred times over the past few months. If you haven’t had a chance to download it yet, click here to do so.

I’m really pleased with the response, and I hope you got value out of it, (or will if you haven’t downloaded it yet). If you used it to create your investor presentation, I would apreciate it if you could send it to me, or drop me a line and let me know how your fundraising efforts are going. Continue reading

Ghostdraft launches in North America

This was an exciting project to launch a new service in North America. My clients needed a simple, product introduction website for an enterprise software product. While it’s a pretty technical product that appeals to a technical customer, we based the site on WordPress, so it’s easy to update going forward. We wanted to feature that, while the service is newly launching in this market, it is built on solid and proven technology in use worldwide for several years.

They needed speed, and we delivered. We got this project completed and the site up in 2 weeks, and that included a new logo design.

Platform : WordPress

Logo design: idesignyourlogo.com (great guys).
